History

The airport is named after Carlos Campos, a local aviator who died in 1995 during a rescue on Mount Tronador. The current terminal building, with its stone-and-wood architecture reflecting the region's alpine landscape, was added in 1991.

  1. 1962 First vision of an airport for the region, in Neuquén Province's development plan.
  2. 1972 Construction begins, on land donated by the De Larminat family.
  3. 1974 The first charter flight lands on July 9 — the Chapelco Airport is born.
  4. 1991 The current terminal building opens.
  5. 2016 The PBN/AR approach system is implemented.

Aerolíneas Argentinas and JetSmart Argentina operate domestic and international flights from Chapelco.
